Yorkshire is my home county and I’ll be delighted to share some of its little-known gardens with you. The varied gardens we visit here will astound in their own way. Stay at the 3* Ramada Wetherby. We shall look in detail at late summer colour and how not to let the garden fade at the end of summer.

Itinerary

Day 1: Our first visit en route to our hotel is Beninbrough (NT) near York.

Day 2: We are going to spend a wonderful day in the village of Helmsley. First we shall visit The Walled Garden where the late clematis will be in bloom, followed by free time to shop, eat or visit the Castle. In the afternoon, we have a guided tour of the house at Duncombe Park and time to find the secret garden amongst the many treasures in the parkland.

Day 3: We make our way to Sledmere House with its blue Turkish room. The gardens include a walled rose garden and a parterre. Later we visit Nunnington Hall (NT) with its organic walled garden.

Day 4: Today we visit Sewerby Hall with its magnificent monkey-puzzle trees and Amy Johnson exhibition and a guided tour of Burton Agnes Hall with over 4,000 plant species.

Day 5: We check out of our hotel this morning to visit the innovative Scampston Walled Gardens designed by Piet Oudolf. Lastly we visit Yorkshire’s premier garden, Castle Howard where we tour the house and gardens and take afternoon tea, included. Late afternoon, we make our way home.
